Saarthaka is a flourishing social organization with an aim to assist students in rural areas to develop their career. Saarthaka is dedicated to guide students regarding the courses available after matriculation.
The motto of Saarthaka primarily being “Educate the needy”, vigorous efforts are being put forth by its enthusiastic members in order to achieve the same. Within a short span, Saarthaka has accomplished education awareness programme in 30 schools in and around Hassan, mysore, tumkur, Bangalore, chitradurga and chamarajanagar. Voice of Saarthaka has reached to over 5000 students till now and the goal is to reach 15000 students by the year 2010.
Saarthaka started with 10 members initially and is continuously expanding. Today Saarthaka is a proud group which hosts around 50 members who have strong zeal to do good for the society. Saarthaka is involved in providing complimentary career guideline materials to students, which has got a huge positive response and good support all over.
Fellow readers, let us take a oath to build our nation by extending our arms to assist students in the rural area and motivate them to develop their career. All we need is dedication, determination and devotion to uplift this Education Awareness Programme to reach the wider audience.
Saarthaka History
On a wonderful occasion, 10 enthusiastic people met each other who were from different background and started brainstorming on a topic "why students from rural areas in India were not competing much”.
The long session concluded with an answer that "Students from rural background are highly intelligent and quick learners but the only thing which was stopping them to compete is the lack of information on their career path or the awareness was very limited".
The concern was, talent from rural area may go unused due to lack of information available on career paths and one way to guide the students is to provide them with required information and letting them know the career path available after matriculation. Ten young guns decided on the flash that they will work for rural students to give them education awareness. Thus Saarthaka originated.What Saarthaka Do?
Usually we contact the school principal, learn about the school, explain them about the need of an Education Awareness Programme (EAP) and request them to schedule a date for us (Particularly on Saturdays). Once the date is confirmed, we send an email to all Saarthaka members with information like date of the programme, name, location of the school and timings. Members email us back with their availabilities; accordingly we arrange transportation and required facilities.
In the programme, we explain students about the courses available after matriculation in all streams, how to approach them, about the entrance tests available and also motivate them by telling how to prepare for the exams.
Students enjoy the programme as we will be giving breaks in-between and entertaining them by cutting few jokes just to make them laugh. Also, based on the availability, we distribute tasty and nutritious snacks to students. Students learn quickly in the fun filled environment and we achieve the target in their smile. It’s quite common that students come up with lot of questions on the career paths. We try our best to clarify all their doubts. In case if we couldn’t answer a few questions, we will try to record it, find the answers and inform the students. Again, based on the availability, we provide career guideline materials to students so that they can refer that after going back to their home. One more purpose of providing the material is that, they can share the material with their parents, relatives and friends who could not make it for the program.
We collect the feedback from the students on the EAP and the areas we can improve. Believe it or not, students always prove to be more creative than us! and come up with better and better suggestions. Sometimes, unexpected things happen! Some schools even complimented us with gifts.
At the end, we rate ourselves and return with great satisfaction.
How can i contribute?
As a member, you can contribute in different ways depending on your own interests. You can contribute by getting information on the courses, by doing documentation work, by guiding students or by donating some money.
If you are interested to contribute something like pen, books, stationary for the school or the students, yes you can do.
There are many ways to show your concern for rural students. If you are very new to this. No problem, you can still attend the programmes and be a spectator. We are happy to receive you always. Most of the time it happens like people are interested in doing good for the society but they will not be knowing how to do it.
